Mr. Bruce Cummings is a Senior Advisor at SMH Capital in the Investment Banking Group. He is a senior member of the firm's Natural Resources Group, focusing on the U.S. corporate finance markets for environmental and other companies.
With over 35 years of experience, his career has covered management and banking responsibilities at three major-bracket investment banking firms where he was actively involved in advising client companies on capital structure, financing strategies, and the execution of such plans in the equity and debt markets, as well as negotiating corporate acquisitions and divestitures.
Before joining SMH Capital in 1999, Mr. Cummings was the President of Elben L.L.C., a corporate finance advisory firm. At Elben L.L.C., he was also a member of the Investment Committees of Environmental Opportunities Fund II, a $75 MM private equity fund investing in environmental companies, and the Corporate Opportunities Fund, a $47 MM private equity fund, investing in a broad range of industrial and service companies.
Prior to that, as Managing Director at Salomon Smith Barney, Mr. Cummings focused on corporate finance activities with environmental services, engineering/construction and specific consolidation/roll-up companies. Earlier in his career, Mr. Cummings was a Senior Vice President of E. F. Hutton & Co. where he was responsible for its environmental services banking efforts as well as managing the industrial, healthcare, and technology financing groups. For 15 years, Mr. Cummings was a member of the New York Corporate Finance Department at Dean Witter Reynolds & Co., managing its New York Corporate Finance Department and its equity and debt syndication operations.
Mr. Cummings holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania, a Certificate of International Studies from the London School of Economics, a Master of Arts in International Economics from the Fletcher School of Law, and later attended Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
Mr. Cummings' current and recent board seats include the Board of Capital Environmental Resources Inc., Gundle/SLT Environmental, Waterlink, and the Board of Visitors, Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University.
